Why you need a quality close up mat.

Hello friends,

For those of you that have never used a close-up before, I know you feel there is no need for one. And for the many of you who do use one, I know you think that all mats or even a carpet sample are created equal. I'd like to share my wisdom with you.

Even if you don't do anything that warrants the use of a mat in the traditional sense, the presence of a mat on your table serves alternative purposes. It becomes a focal point, a mini stage if you will. Rather than the whole table, this is your personal space.

Believe it or not it also subconsciously, deters " The Grabbers." These are the folks who want to grab the props right out of your hands before during or after your perform an effect. When a prop is on your mat, they know not to touch. Move it past the edges and it becomes fair game for "The Grabbers." Perfect if you want them to examine something and they may even think you didn't offer it to them! If they are thinking of anything other than figuring out what ever it is that you just did.

Why else do you need a mat? They make it easy to pick up cards (ex: the method in which you must pick up the gimmicks for Michael Skinner's Ultimate 3 Card Monte. To silently drop a palmed coin or to load a coin into an Okito Box without talking. To dislodge effortlessly a Chop Cup load. To hide a prediction or duplicate card or coin under the mat for a later reveal. Even to just do a simple card spread. Try this stuff on a wooden table and you know it can't be done.

The importance of a quality mat. Our mat surface is a soft nylon. The very same surface used on many casino quality poker tables. The surface will not wear out like many other mats on the market and they won't get the colored flocking material on your hands and under your nails like some other brands. The thick rubber backing grips what ever surface you are working on. Some cheap mats either do not have a rubber back or the texture of it causes slippage. We offer a far wider range of colors, sizes and shapes than any other maker and can make custom sizes for you. Our mats are hand washable and guaranteed for life never to separate.

In no particular order, here is a short list of some of the pros that use our mats. I bet you have heard of most of them. Darwin Ortiz, Steve Wyrick, James Swain, Doc Eason, Criss Angel, , David Roth, Eric DeCamps, Lennart Green, Bob Fitch, Johnny Thompson, Dan Fleshman, Stephane Bourgoin, Simon Lovell, Terry Lunceford, Bill Malone and Steve Dacri. It's no wonder why we call them the Magician's Choice TM Performance Mat.
