The Book Of Haunted Magick by Rick Maue

Hello friends,

The Book Of Haunted Magick by Rick Maue is finally back in stock.
In it's hay day, this was one of our most popular titles. In and out of print again and again.

Many consider this to be Rick's finest works. Rick's own feelings on this book is another story. He actually doesn't even remember writing it so he has no personal connection to it. When the title goes OOP, he doesn't really care on way or the other. Yes, you have read that correctly.

You see Rick & his family were in a terrible car accident some years ago. And Rick had lost his memory and he almost lost his daughter. Luckily Rick's daughter and memory are fine now!

Writing this book was doctor's orders. A form of rehabilitation to get him to remember the things he used to do. As a natural born creator, that's exactly what he did.

I talked to Rick a couple of days ago and he informed me that it actually never really did go out of print ever. He just decided to keep an exclusive on it for much of the time.

We were fortunate to have Rick come do a lecture for us a few years ago doing material from this book. Apart from being a really nice guy, he was maybe the most entertaining lecturer we've ever had. He was also one of the finest teachers ever to pass though our doors and we can't wait to have him back again.

This is the review I gave his lecture that's posted on his website. www.deceptionsunlimited.com

I was anticipating Rick Maue's visit to our place (Ronjo Magic) for quite some time now. I had the expectations of watching a strange man dressed in black, lighting candles and doing unusual things with tarot cards. His presentations would be a welcomed change from the typical normalcy of cards and coins.
Last night finally arrived and Rick did his lecture for
us. This man was not a demon dressed in black nor did he light any candles (although he did talk about lighting some).
He used plain old cards and would you believe it, he hardly did any magic at all!
Were we disappointed? In a word…NO!
Apart from being a great teacher, thinker and innovator, he is a very nice person. His show was informative, exciting and fun. Rick also gave us something that no other lecturer has ever given to us before. He gave us the gift of our own minds. He taught us things we didn't know could be taught!
He showed us how to be creative.
Yes, we actually learned how to invent new effects and come up with original presentations derived from old or stale props and routines. We learned why ideas come to us and how to make them useful. Now that's powerful.

But we learned so much more that. More than I can say if a few words without going on and on for hours.
So the next Rick Maue does a lecture in your
area, make sure you attend. His lecture has something for everyone, even if you don't like the idea of Haunted Magick, you will learn how to adapt his ideas into your own way of thinking.

Now back The Book Of Haunted Magick and the positive things associated with it.
Here are what the pros are saying. (The first review by anonymous is from our website and not too far from the truth in more ways than one.)

It's a great book, it's well-written, and you'll find lots of useful Mentalism stuff in it. It's also insane value for money. I'm not sure what was going on when Rick decided to let this go for 35 dollars. Maybe someone had just dropped a piano on his head or something. Probably the first magic book in history which offers too much value for money, this fine, beautiful and deeply satisfying book deserves the 'must buy' tag

Mike Gorman,
The Linking Ring
"I really enjoyed this terrific book and highly recommend it to anyone doing close-up or intimate stand-up magic."

Mike Close,
Magic Magazine
"The Book of Haunted Magick is reasonably priced and has enough variety to appeal to a wide audience. If you enjoy reading about bizarre magick this book is worth your
serious consideration."

David Goodsell,
MUM Magazine
"This is a good book! It is easy to recommend it. As one can tell from the title, the magic is of the bizarre form, but most of it is easily adapted to straight mentalism or magic. It is fun stuff and some of it is downright diabolical."

Banachek
"If you really like non gimmick, non prop, spur of the moment mentalism, one can do no better than Terasabos. It truly is a diabolically simple, yet powerful in scope, piece of mentalism. Don't pass this one by.
It is absolutely brilliant."

Gene Poinc,
Author of The Practitioner: Journeys Into Grey

"Read and learn. Reread and learn even more. A significant book."

Richard Busch,
Author of Peek Performances
"At last, a book of Bizarre Magick that is not strictly for bizarrists. Magicians and mentalists will also find many valuable items inside these pages."

Allen Zingg,
Editor of PABULAR &
Editor of VIBRATIONS,
the PEA monthly journal
"I am sure you have heard this from others… This is a terrific Book!
I'm Impressed!"

Craig Karges
"What a great book! It's a BIG book filled with wonderful routines, stories and ideas. It's written in a very easy going, friendly style and is actually fun to read. You can tell the routines have been performed and aren't some kind of pipe dream. Rick, this book should put you on the map as one of the leaders in this type of very special, powerful magic. You've got a winner in HauntedMagick!"

What's in it The Book Of Haunted Magick? Good Question. Here is your answer.
All the material represents a marriage of quality thinking and sound, practical experience. With over 185 pages, The Book Of Haunted Magick contains a total of fifty items, including mentalism, routines, utility moves and essays. Many of the items can be used for intimate close-up performances or for larger stage shows.Regardless of what type of audience that you perform for, you will find material in The Book Of Haunted Magick that you can add to your working repertoire right away

One highlight of the book is Terasabos. Everyone who buys this book loves Terasabos. Basically, spec hides small object under 1 of 5 cups, and you turn around and 'divine' which one. Okay, now think of the cleverest, most deceptive, most brain-meltingly ingenious way of achieving this effect, then double it, and you might get close to Terasabos. If you love mentalism at all, then you need to read Rick's Terasabos routine (and the whole item is beautifully explained, by the way, with typical Maue clarity and instructional elegance). Just to spoil you rotten, later in the book Rick offers another version of the Terasabos effect, which is also very good. And then... later on... a third variation! And that's pretty good too!

What else do you get?

  • Intersection, an utterly cute prediction idea that must have, oh, a few gazillion uses for anyone who likes predicting unpredictable audience choices.
  • Predetermined, a neatly spooky idea in which a thought of selection vanishes as a prelude to... a surprise twist!
  • Tocapadmo, a smart utility move which is fun to play with, and a very practical way to make writing appear out of nowhere. The Inside-Out Book Test, which is pretty well what the title implies.
  • Spectrum, a very attractive routine based on a sequence of colours.
  • Voodoo, a frighteningly strong effect about thoughts, choices and blood (good combo!).
  • Unbreakable Bond, a beautiful plot which I loved as soon as I read it, and immediately wished no-one knew about it but me.
  • Truth Of The Relic - The performer is able to determine who possesses a specific item, without the use of gimmicks, peeks, or sleight-of-hand

Plus more good stuff you'll discover for yourself when you buy it.
