Mindfreak

We wanted to give a shout out to Criss Angel. Criss is in no way new to magic or to music. He has been working very hard at his craft for decades to become the showman you’ve been seeing on TV regularly for the past year. Taking the words direct from Rob Zombie’s mouth, “Criss Angel has kicked magic in its tied old ass.” Not since Mark Wilson’s Magic Circus which first aired in 1970 has there been a magic show in U.S. syndication. Wilson also trained Bill Bixby in the 1973 series The Magician.

Up until just last year we all had to wait until a special was on the tube. We would all look forward to seeing Doug Henning, David Copperfield, Lance Burton, The World’s Greatest Magic, David Blaine and the many others. These specials were a great treat but they came around so few and far between and we were hungry for more. Criss had a few specials of his own, including his first American TV special Supernatural .

Next was his live show Mindfreak at the WWF theater in Manhattan. When the show closed he took Mindfreak on a world tour. Not soon after A& E’s launched the prime time series Mindfreak. The premier episode was number one in the ratings .

These days, Criss is everywhere and the public is eating it up. Criss, we want to congratulate you on all of your success. Your efforts have really paid off and it appears as if there is no stopping you. Keep it up!

Your successful series has generated more interest in magic than ever before. So many laypeople want to learn the art of magic. We see it in our store everyday. The magicians 20 years from now will be saying “Criss Angel got me started.”

Now in the prime of his career as a performer, Criss has elected to become a devoted teacher of magic. Even sharing some of his very own secrets!

He has a book coming out and season two of Mindfreak will air shortly. We wish you continued success.

Derren Brown has demonstrated the Jedi Mind Trick and many others over and over on his Channel 4 Mind Control program in the UK. I have had the privilege of seeing his DVDs at a friends house and let me tell you, his stuff is so amazing that he makes other top pros look like amateurs. I highly recommend that you get a hold of a hacked DVD player that will play Region 2 DVDs and go out and get his videos of the TV show. I promise it will be the most amazing thing you have ever seen. On Derren's website, you can purchase exclusively through him, The Devil's Picture Book. Luckily all the remaining VHS copies are in NTSC format, so you don't have to worry about getting a PAL VCR. The Devil's Picture Book is also on DVD also but I am not sure if it is a region free disc. At Derren's request, both of his books have gone out of print forever. Summer is coming.

Magician’s you ready for the busy season? It is time for Communions and Block Parties. If you are a doing a repeat performance for a client or are working as a referral for someone, chances are a large portion of your audience will have seen you before. Don’t perform the same old thing. Think about your early days as a performer when you brought out the Coloring Book or Needle Through Balloon. Remember, “I know that one.” Sure there are children that will have never seen them before but with so many parties and so many repeat performances, can you afford to have a stale show? These days, so many new items are hitting the market each week, why not change a few things? It will also help to keep you from getting board. Check out our What’s New Section frequently and also have a look at our Kid Show & Comedy section. Jumping Jelly Beans by Eric Lewis and Dave Kaye, aka Silly Billy is a fine NEW children’s effect. Magic Camp

Summer is coming and here at Ronjo Magic, we are gearing up for our first ever Magic Camp! Here is the plan so far: Beginning in June, we will have one business week of magic for the youngsters. Monday through Friday for two hours a day and at two different times, morning and afternoon groups. There, your child will experience first hand what it is like to see a live magician up close and they themselves will learn to perform some amazing feats. Groups sessions will teach your child social skills and hand eye coordination. It will keep them away from the computer and the video games, and it will give you parents a bit of relaxation time. Electric Touch

Yigal Mesika’s Electric Touch arrived here in early April. We scrambled to get them all shipped out the very same day. Hey, we couldn’t bear to have you wait “one more day.” Some of you have had these on pre order since December 2005. If you were following the progress of that product, you will know that the delays in production, shipping and customs had nothing to do with Ronjo but rather Mesika Magic. We are happy to say that all the pre-order people received their order and everybody we have spoken to since seems to be happy with their purchase. We are glad to tell you that we now have a small supply for those of you who decided not to dish out your money four months in advance. Anyway, this is the real production batch and all the bugs with not enough shock or too much shock have been corrected. For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, have a look here.
